Art Chat with Joanna Kaufman

  • MoonMountain Highway 113 West Steuben Street Cook, WA, 98605 United States (map)

The White Salmon Arts Council is thrilled to host our next Art Chat, with artist and writer Joanna Kaufman May 25th, 5:30-7:30pm at MoonMountain Highway in Bingen, WA. The White Salmon Arts Council’s Art Chats provide a unique opportunity to converse with northwest artists in a casual and intimate setting. This event is open to the public - WSAC members can attend for free and non-members pay $10 at the door.

Trout Lake artist Joanna Kaufman’s paintings and illustrations are manifested in books, prints, and as original artworks. Her gouache and watercolor renderings capture the delicate luminescent forms of moths, beetles and other winged insects, highlighting the connection between beauty and impermanence. Kaufman also creates whimsical illustrations of animals personified, an owl strumming a harp, or mice dancing arm in arm. She received an MFA in creative writing from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and her interest in narration is imbued in these works.

Kaufman is also an educator and has worked as a teacher of second-language acquisition and as an arts teacher for both children and adults. She has collaborated on the text and illustration of thirteen story books. Her artwork can be found in the public collections of the City of Portland, Oregon, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. In 2022 she was the recipient of an Alumni Fellowship from Pacific Northwest College of Art, Willamette University.
Established in 2006, the White Salmon Arts Council promotes area artists and the arts through educational opportunities and art-inspired programs and events, with the support of our members, sponsors, and the local business community.

The White Salmon Arts Council is incorporated as a Non-Profit Corporation in the State of Washington and is exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Federal EIN: 06-178127.
